Woman calls taxi after unregistered, uninsured car towed from scene of traffic stop in The Villages

A woman took a taxi after her unregistered, uninsured car was towed from the scene of a traffic stop in The Villages.

Two women took a taxi after their unregistered, uninsured car was towed from the scene of a traffic stop in The Villages.

Patricia Salley Schwerdt, 32, of Fruitland Park, had been at the wheel of the white Hyundai on Monday afternoon when she was pulled over at Chula Vista Avenue and Palermo Place. A police officer made the stop after it was determined the car’s license plate had last been registered in 2014 to a homemade trailer.

Schwerdt presented the officer with a Florida identification card and claimed she had a valid South Carolina driver’s license. However, the officer found that her South Carolina driver’s license had been suspended.

Schwerdt admitted she knew her car was unregistered and uninsured, but said she needed to go pick up her daughter.

She was issued criminal citations for driving an unregistered motor vehicle and driving on a suspended license. She was issued a civil citation for no proof of insurance.

Kling Towing removed and impounded the vehicle.

The woman left in a taxi.
