Registered sex offender arrested in parking lot at MVP Athletic Club at Brownwood

Daniel Curtis Flynn

A registered sex offender was arrested Wednesday morning in the parking lot of MVP Athletic Club at Brownwood.

Daniel Curtis Flynn, 36, of Summerfield, had been a passenger in a gold SUV that was pulled over by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy at about 10 a.m. at County Road 466A and Powell Road. During the traffic stop, the deputy determined that Flynn’s driver’s license was suspended due to failure to pay traffic fines. Flynn told the deputy he was aware his license was suspended.

A short time later, the same deputy spotted Flynn behind the wheel of the SUV.

“You know you’re not supposed to be driving,” the deputy said during a second traffic stop.

Flynn attempted to offer an explanation.

“I know I just dropped my girl off at work and was looking for a parking space to park, so a friend could get the vehicle,” Flynn said.

The deputy detected the smell of marijuana and Flynn admitted it was concealed in his crotch area. He was also found to be in possession of two pipes used for smoking marijuana.

He was taken into custody on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license suspended.

In 2008, Flynn had been convicted of lewd and lascivious sexual battery involving a victim between the age of 12 and 15, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
