A repeat offender was arrested on a charge of battery on Wednesday in Summerfield.
Marion County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Carney Island Park in reference to a domestic disturbance, according to an arrest report. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the victim who advised that she and 47-year-old Jack Dwayne Segrest got into a verbal argument that turned physical when Segrest struck her multiple times in a vehicle. As she tried exiting from the vehicle, Segrest grabbed her left arm and began striking her repeatedly on her hands, arms and head. Segrest then drove away when the victim was able to leave the vehicle.
After observing bruising and swelling to the victim’s hand, arm and cheek, deputies were told that the victim and Segrest used to live in the same residence until he was arrested on Jan. 10 for domestic battery against her.
An eyewitness told deputies she observed Segrest holding on to the victim’s arm while the victim was screaming for help and attempting to escape from the vehicle.
Deputies located Segrest at his residence in Summerfield and placed him under arrest. He was transported to Marion County Jail. A criminal history check on Segrest revealed that he was convicted on Jan. 3, 1997 on a charge of simple battery. Segrest was placed on bond release on Jan. 12 of this year, which prohibited him from having contact with the victim.
