A reckless driver found with marijuana and a loaded weapon was arrested on Thursday on Sunset Harbor Road.
A Marion County sheriff’s detective observed 26-year-old Aaron Leon Watkins driving recklessly in the 9300 block of Sunset Harbor Road, according to an arrest report. He also noticed that Watkins was not wearing his seat belt. As the detective approached the vehicle, he noticed a strong odor of marijuana emitting from Watkins’s vehicle. The detective asked Watkins if he had marijuana in the vehicle, to which Watkins stated he smoked it prior to the traffic stop. A search turned up a black, loaded Ruger 9mm handgun in Watkins’ pocket. Watkins admitted he does not have a concealed weapons permit.
He was also in possession of two small baggies of a green leafy substance, which field tested positive for marijuana.
He was transported to Marion County Jail. Bond was set at $3,000.
