Southbound Interstate 75 in Marion County shut down after Texans seriously injured in rollover crash

Southbound I-75 in Marion County was shut down for four hours Friday after a group of Texans was injured in a rollover crash.

The accident occurred at 2:24 p.m. at Mile Marker 352 after the front tire blew out on a 2003 Ford SUV driven by Maria Isabel Cuevas of Elmendorf, Texas, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The vehicle struck a 2017 Ford Explorer driven by Robert Lacy Lentz, 75, of Gainesville, but he escaped injured.

Two Texans were airlifted from the scene of the accident, one-year-old Jeremia Bertis who was flown to Shands UF Hospital and 49-year-old Jesus Bertiz who was flown to Ocala Regional Medical Center.

Others in the vehicle suffered minor injuries, including a three-year-old and a five-year-old.
