The Amenity Authority Committee will discuss the future of the Recreation News when members gather this week for a budget workshop.

Last year, residents were stunned to learn that the AAC was budgeting a 73 percent increase for Recreation News, which is inserted weekly in The Villages Daily Sun and made available to residents at no cost at recreation centers throughout The Villages.
The AAC’s share for the costs of producing the Recreation News was forecast to climb to $364,640 for 2017-18, an increase of $153,680. The Sumter Landing Community Development District’s share of the cost of the weekly printing and distribution of Recreation News increased from $338,540 to $616,860.
AAC members got an earful from residents who complained that the material in Recreation News was redundant from week to week and that many unopened copies at recreation centers wind up in the trash at the end of the week.
The future of Recreation News will be discussed when AAC members gather for a budget workshop at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the District Office at Lake Sumter Landing. The public is welcome at the budget workshop.
