The Florida Governmental Utility Authority and the Town of Lady Lake announced the first, second and third place winners of the Second Annual Water Awareness Poster Contest at the Lady Lake Commission meeting on April 16.

The Florida Governmental Utility Authority and Town of Lady Lake sponsored the water awareness poster contest at the Villages Elementary School of Lady Lake.

Approximately 430 students in first, second and third grade levels participated through their art class.

“Each week students learned the importance of preserving this precious resource and ways they can make a difference in their community,” said Michelle Harris of FGUA.

At the end of the month, the school selected the top 10 posters from each of the three grade levels. Those posters were brought to Town Hall and judged by a committee.

“There was a tremendous amount of support from the community in the form of 20 sponsorship donations. All 30 students received a water conservation bag filled with all kinds of goodies from sponsors,” Harris said.

Students showed off their winning artwork at the April 16 meeting of the Lady Lake Commission.

The nine winning posters will be on display at the Lady Lake Library until the end of May.
