A Bonefish Grill employee was arrested on drug charges after fleeing the scene of a crash at Carmendy Square Townhomes in Lady Lake.
A Lady Lake K-9 unit assisted in the arrest of 48-year-old Derrick Lorenzo Hayes, of Fruitland Park, following the crash at about 8 a.m. Friday in the 300 block of Sunny Oaks Way. Witnesses flagged down a Lady Lake police officer and told him that Hayes had fled on foot. One witness followed Hayes and saw him discard items, later determined to be drugs.
After his apprehension, Hayes told police that his foot got stuck on the brake, he was “nervous” and decided to run.
Hayes, who is employed at Bonefish Grill in The Villages, was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a crash, possession of cocaine, possession of acetaminophen, possession of oxycodone hydrochloride and possession of marijuana, according to the arrest report.
He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $9,000 bond.
