Attorney files to run for CDD 6 seat being vacated by board’s current chairman

Andrew Curtis

An attorney has filed to run for a seat on the Community Development District 6 Board of Supervisors.

Andrew Curtis, a resident of the Village of Mallory Square, is seeking election to Seat 1, which is currently held by CDD 6 Chair Sally Moss.

Moss, who will serve out the reminder of her CDD 6 term, announced that she would not run again. She has opted instead to run in November for a seat on the Sumter County School Board. She was appointed to the school board earlier this year by Gov. Rick Scott.

Curtis is a member of the Property Owners Association Board and he said his fellow members encouraged him to seek the CDD 6 seat.

Curtis moved to The Villages in the aftermath of 2007 Groundhog Day Tornado. In fact, he bought a house that was badly damaged in the tornado. It has since been rebuilt and he continues living in it.

Curtis is an attorney with offices throughout Florida, including an office in Fruitland Park.  He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA). His practice concentrates in trusts, estates and elder law. Curtis earned his JD from Georgetown University Law School in 1983, his LLM in Taxation from New York University Law School in 1986, his MBA from the University of Michigan in 1978 and his BS from Cornell University in 1977. Curtis was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1989. He is a past member of the New York Bar, Massachusetts Bar, Illinois Bar and Hawaii Bar.

Villager John Barlow had also filed to run for Seat 1 in CDD 6, but withdrew his paperwork on Monday, according to the Sumter County Supervisor of Elections Office.

The last day to file for the race is June 22.
