
Juan Antonio Alvarez, of Lady Lake, FL, was raised to Everlasting Life with our Lord on June 3, 2018. Juan (John) was born on August 6, 1928, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico to Isaiah and Mercedes Alvarez. They moved to Brooklyn, New York as a young boy.
He joined the Army July 30, 1948 and was Honorably Discharged April 4, 1951. During that time, he served in Transportation during the Korean War. He later worked as a Chemical Operator for Chas. Pfizer in Brooklyn. To better provide for his family, we moved to Nassau County, Lynbrook, NY, where he joined the USPS. He loved his career with the USPS, becoming a Postal Supervisor and later a Postal Security Officer at JFK Airport. He transferred to serve at the Miami Airport and the family moved to Miramar, FL. He lived happily at Harbor Chase ALF for his final years in Lady Lake, FL.
Together with wife, Elva, they raised a family. He is survived by his children Sam Alvarez – Winterville, GA, Cindy (Tom) Diemer – Lady Lake, FL, and Rita (Bob) Libonati- Hollywood, FL; seven grandchildren- Kevin Mayernik, Wesley (Amelia) Mayernik, Diona (Darrell) Barbery, Valarie (Dyce) Kimura, Alex and Nick Alvarez, and Mike (Ann) Diemer; six great-grandchildren, Konner, Tabitha, and Harrison Mayernik; and Isaiah, Naomi, and Jordon Kimura; son in-law Larry Mayernik. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his wife Elva; children Audrey Mayernik and John Alvarez.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2018 from 2 – 4 pm, with a prayer service at 3 p.m., located at Page-Theus Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 914 W. Main Street, Leesburg, FL 34748. Burial will be Monday, June 11, 2018, at 11 a.m., located at Florida National Cemetery. Please meet at the cemetery.
