Golf cart lanes will be widened in the Lady Lake portion of The Villages.
The Lady Lake Commission on Monday approved the 2018 Pavement Management Plan that details work to take place on roadways in the town.

Mayor Jim Richards threw a bit of a curve ball into the plan.
He suggested widening the golf cart lanes on Rio Grande Avenue, Chula Vista Avenue and Del Mar Drive.
The amount of widening will be left to the discretion of town staff.

“We here at Public Works are investigating Sumter County’s efforts and will attempt to make those areas uniform, especially on Rio Grand Avenue where the jurisdictions meet,” said Lady Lake Public Works Director C.T. Eagle.
Pavement widths may vary from road to road and staff will take that into account when establishing the line locations, he added.
The mayor, a retired engineer, suggested that the lanes of traffic for automobiles be narrowed slightly to accommodate wider golf cart lanes. He said narrowing the automobile lanes could have the added benefit of slowing down drivers.
