An Ocala man was arrested Sunday after a woman fled their home and went to her father’s house following a violent altercation over missing pills.
The woman told Marion County Sheriff’s deputies that an argument with 42-year-old Deonarine Persaud Tamaisar turned violent in their Poplar Road home after she noticed that some of her medication was missing. She said she confronted Tamaisar, who became upset, yelled and physically pushed her, a sheriff’s office report states.
The woman, who was at her father’s house on Laurel Court, said Tamaisar slapped her on the left side of her face using his right hand after she told him to stop yelling and pushing her. She said she grabbed her keys and left through the laundry room, where Tamaisar tried to confront her again.
The woman, who told deputies that she was scared, said she believes Tamaisar “has a drug problem and has taken her medication in the past,” the report states, adding that “this was not the first time Tamaisar has struck her.”
In the report, deputies noted seeing slight redness on the left side of the woman’s face and the upper portion of her neck. She denied EMS treatment and said there were no witnesses to the incident.
A short time later, deputies made contact with Tamaisar at the house on Poplar Road. He admitted that he and the woman were arguing but denied touching or striking her. He also didn’t mention that the altercation was about the woman’s missing pills, the report says.
Tamaisar was taken into custody, transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with domestic violence. He was held on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 24 at 8 a.m.
