Project Legacy recently donated two checks to organizations that hold after-school programs for students in the tri-county area.
The first went to The Villages High School Band. That donation came about after Jean Butler, director of The Villages Concert Band, and Sandy Fuller, chairperson of the Outreach Program, asked Project Legacy to pay for a portion of the high school band’s electronic equipment that needed replacing. The band’s director, Linda Quinn, told Project Legacy members she was “delighted” to receive the funds.
The second donation went to Young Performing Artists. Project Legacy has been supporting one of that group’s summer programs for several years.
Project Legacy’s overall goal is to secure finances and other resources that will assist in meeting the needs of various ongoing community projects that benefit children. The group partners with businesses in the tri-county area and receives money from various fundraising events, with one of its most generous supporters being the Retired Old Men Eating Out (ROMEO) of Wildwood. And in the past 10 years, the group has distributed more than $95,000 to various organizations in the local area.
Project Legacy’s next big fundraiser, titled “Honoring Our Veterans,” will be held Nov. 11 to thank those from throughout the tri-county area who have served in the military. The event will begin at 6 p.m. at Heritage Community Church in Fruitland Park. Entertainment will be provided by the Double M Band with well-known area singers Billie Thatcher, Jan Lavin and Alex Santoriello, as well as the Elderly Brothers Quartet.
