A Leesburg man was arrested Saturday night after Lady Lake Police received a call of a possible battery in progress in the area of County Road 466 and U.S. Hwy. 27/441.
When an officer stopped the vehicle in the RaceTrac parking lot, the driver, 18-year-old Luis Alberto Ocasio Melendez jumped out of the car, a Lady Lake Police report states.
The officer noted that a strong smell of marijuana was coming from inside the car. A search turned up more than 225 grams of the drug, “packaged with intent to sell,” the report says, adding that two measuring scales also were found in the car.
Melendez was transported to the Lake County Jail and charged with possession of marijuana over 20 grams, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $6,000.
