Paul Leslie Taylor

An Ocala man was arrested after attempting to walk out of Bealls wearing a brand-new pair of shoes.

Paul Leslie Taylor, 55, entered the store on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Lady Lake at about 1 p.m. Sunday and went to the shoe aisle, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He shopped for several minutes, looking for the right pair, trying each of them on for size. He then took his old shoes and put them in a shoebox. He was detained when he attempted to walk out of the store wearing the new shoes.

A criminal history check revealed multiple theft convictions, as recently as 2016 and dating back to 1985.

He was arrested on a felony charge of theft and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $2,000.
