A controversial plan for a Darrell’s Diner will go before a committee this week.
The plan for a two-story building to be known as Teague Plaza will go before the Parks, Recreation and Tree Advisory Committee at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 11 at Lady Lake Town Hall.
Teague Plaza is to be located on 1.63 acres at 1124 Teague Trail.
The new building, to include six apartments upstairs and a diner on the lower floor, would be built behind homes on Tarrson Boulevard on the Historic Side of The Villages.
Villagers have previously shown up at town meetings to voice their displeasure with the possibility of having a diner in their backyards.
They complained that the original pitch for the building was for medical offices. The owner later asked that that a diner be allowed to open at 5 a.m.
The man pushing the project, Lawrence Breech of T-Lynne Properties, has only confirmed that he and his partners want to build a 45-seat restaurant. However, Breech is known to be an investor in the Darrell’s Diner chain, as well as internet cafes.
The proposed project had already raised concerns of Villagers in 2016.
