Lunch crowd at Panera at Spanish Springs evacuated after fire breaks out in kitchen

Firefighters were called to the Panera Bread restaurant in Spanish Springs after a kitchen fire was reported early Thursday afternoon.

Seven units from The Villages Public Safety Department, two others from Lake County Fire Rescue and an ambulance from Lake EMS responded to the call. The fire was out when they arrived but the restaurant was temporarily evacuated as a precaution.

Late Thursday afternoon, an employee said the popular restaurant, located at 1181 Main St. reopened shortly after the 12:07 p.m. incident. The employee also said the fire damaged a piece of equipment that will prohibit the restaurant from serving any kinds of soup until Friday.
