The Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County has 100 free spay/neuter vouchers available to qualifying Sumter County residents’ dogs and cats.

All breeds are eligible for the program, with a goal of drastically reducing the overpopulation of homeless and neglected dogs and cats throughout Sumter County.

Many pet owners aren’t aware of it, but puppies and kittens can reproduce at as young an age as four months old. Oftentimes, those owners find themselves with a litter of unwanted puppies or kittens, who in turn then face an uncertain future.

Pet owners who are interested in taking advantage of the free spay/neuter vouchers are encouraged to call (352) 793-9117 or come by the shelter in Lake Panasoffkee at 994 CR 529A. The facility, which is a non-profit, no-kill shelter, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors are always welcome.

Those wishing to make tax-deductible donations to the program can go online at hsspca.org/donate or send them by mail to Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, P.O. Box 67, Lake Panasoffkee FL, 33538.
