Lake County sheriff’s deputies arrested two men with methamphetamine Monday night during a routine traffic stop in Lady Lake.
A deputy ran the license plate of a vehicle traveling on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and initiated a traffic stop at Teague Trail after the check revealed the vehicle’s registered owner had a suspended license.
The driver, 33-year-old Steven Shannon Smith of Mount Dora, told the deputy he did not have his registration or proof of insurance. A passenger, 32-year-old Randall Kyle Cox of Sorrento, was asked to step out of the vehicle, and when he did, a syringe fell from his lap, according to an arrest report. A bag containing methamphetamine was also discovered.
Smith was searched and a bag containing methamphetamine was found.
Both men were arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine and booked at the Lake County Jail.
Smith was released after posting $2,000 bond.
Cox was booked without bond, as he was also charged with violating his probation.
