Milan “Mike” Stevko, of Lady Lake, Florida, died August 9, 2018 at Ocala Regional Medical Center. Born in Newark, New Jersey, he moved to “The Villages” from Edison, New Jersey in 1991.
He was a retired Advertising Typographer in New York City and a High School Teacher who taught in both New York and New Jersey. He was a lifetime member of the Keasby, New Jersey, Fire Depratment with whom he was associated from 1978-1991. He was a graduate of Rutgers University, and a 32-year member of the New York Typographical Union with whom he was a Union Representative for 10 years.
He was a member of the Rutgers University Alumni Club, St. Timothy Catholic Church in Lady Lake, a member of the New Jersey Club, the Irish-American Club, the Chula Vista Social Club, Computer Club of The Villages, a “rain-spotter” for Karl Loeper and WVLG radio, and a Lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 2730 of The Villages-South Marion, FL. He also appeared as a background player in the motion pictures “Rosewood” and” From the Earth to the Moon”. He played softball for 40 years in New Jersey and in 1991 joined The Villages recreation softball leagues including The Villages Wednesday Night League, the Saturday Neighborhood Softball League, and played in the softball leagues of Lake County and The Villages during his retirement years. He actively participated in Golf, Billiards, Tennis, Short-Court Tennis, Dartball, Bocce, Pickleball, Platform Tennis, Shuffleboard, Airgun, Volleyball, Dominoes, and Table Tennis during his many years in The Villages.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; a son Kenneth of Kendall Park, NJ and his wife Tracy; daughters Debra Miller of Hillsborough, NJ and her husband Howard, and Karen Labos of Kendall Park, NJ and her husband Mark; a sister Vera Correia of Whippany, NJ, two grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd., The Villages on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 3 to 5 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in St. Timothy Catholic Church, The Villages on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. A reception will immediately follow in the Marilyn Monroe Room at Paradise.
