A Villager has raised concerns about a neglected neighborhood property in the Village of Palo Alto.
The property at 2116 Zaragoza Place was the subject of a public hearing Friday morning before the Community Development District 2 Board of Supervisors.
The property was purchased in 2000 by William and Jean Swan. She is deceased and he reportedly is in Virginia and suffering from dementia.
A complaint about overgrown grass and weeds was received on July 1 and verified by Community Standards the following day. Community Standards has thus far been unsuccessful in contacting the owner.
Joseph Nowak, who lives at 2118 Zaragoza Place, spoke to the board about his concerns about the neglected property.
In addition to the overgrown grass and weeds, Nowak said the home has a swimming pool that appears to be unserviced and unattended. He said he has concerns about health issues.
Nowak was told that the swimming pool is not something over which the district has any authority and that he might want to contact the health department.
The board voted to give the homeowner three days to come into compliance. If not, a series of fines will be imposed and the district will maintain the property twice a month in the summer and once a month in the winter. A $250 fine will be imposed each time the district maintains the property.
