The Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County has named Joseph Sprague Jr. as its new executive director.
He brings more than 30 years of experience in the field of animal welfare, including serving as executive director at several humane societies and shelters across the country. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business management from State University of New York of Albany and studied non-profit management at the College of St. Joseph in Vermont.
As executive director, Sprague is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the animal shelter and will work closely with the board of directors in developing a new business plan designed to support the HS/SPCA mission and programs.
With the continuous growth throughout Sumter County, a critical part of Sprague’s responsibilities will be in the planning of the animal shelter’s future with necessary expansion and improvements.
