Joseph A. White

Joseph A. White, 82, of The Villages, FL, passed from this life Friday, October 5, 2018. Born in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Gerard and Helen (Hilliard) White.

Joseph served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps during the mid1950s. He began his law enforcement career with the New York City Police Department retiring as a detective after 21 years of service. He continued his career with the Department of Defense as an Investigative Agent including a time with the Federal Bureau of Investigation as an agent. He retired in 1996.

Joseph and his wife Doris came to The Villages, FL, from Central Valley, NY in 2003. He was active in sports participating in softball, bowling and bocce. He was one of the founding fathers of the Monroe-Woodbury HS Football (NY) Parents Club. He was president of the Irish American Club, and the Retired Police/ Fire Club. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Celtic Club, the 1013 Club, the Second Honeymooners Club, and the New York Giants Club and The Villages Marine Corps League. He was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Church, Summerfield.

Besides his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Susan Sabini; granddaughters, Helen and Christie Sabini; and siblings, Gerard W. White, Ann Rodgers and Lucy Michael.

He leaves his beloved wife of 59 years, Doris (Hatcher) White; children; Joseph White (Sally) Springville, AL; Sharon Menkens (Billy) Murrells Inlet, SC; Kenneth White (Maria) Mooresville, NC; Patrick White (Dawn) Monroe, NY; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and sister Margaret Longo (Joseph) Monroe, NY.

The family will receive relatives and friends at a visitation to be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services 1511 Buenos Aires Boulevard, The Villages from 2 – 4; 7 – 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 12, 2018 in St. Mark the Evangelist Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY (www.mskcc.org).
