Tara Leeann Hawotte

A woman was arrested over the weekend after allegedly keying another woman’s car while it was parked at the Sumter County Detention Center.

Tara Leeann Hawotte, 32, “had words” with the woman Saturday at the video visitation center at the jail in Bushnell, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. When the woman returned to her home in Marion County, she noticed the scratch marks on the passenger-side rear quarter panel of her vehicle. Damage is estimated at $1,000.

Hawotte was living in Spruce Creek South when she was arrested by Wildwood police on Oct. 5 on drug charges after a traffic stop on State Road 44. She was arrested along with a male companion, 36-year-old Derrick Dewayne McBride of Wildwood.

Derrick McBride

McBride, who was already on probation, has been jailed without bond since his Oct. 5 arrest, also on drug charges.

The most-recent arrest report indicates Hawotte has since moved to Leesburg.

She was booked Sunday night on a charge of criminal mischief. Bond has been set at $1,500.
