A 45-year-old Summerfield man was arrested after allegedly lying to a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy about his Florida driving history.
Jose Francisco Lopez Cordero was driving a silver Volkswagen Jetta at 8:49 p.m. Tuesday when he was pulled over at the intersection of U.S. 301 and County Road 466, according to an arrest report.
The deputy had discovered that the license plate on the Volkswagen actually belonged on a Dodge pickup.
Lopez Cordero presented the deputy with a Puerto Rican identification card and said he never held a Florida driver’s license. However, a check by his name and birthday showed that Lopez Cordero had been issued a Florida driver’s license in 2011 and it was suspended in 2014 for violation of support delinquency.
He was arrested on charges of driving while license suspended and failure to register a motor vehicle. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $1,000 bond.
