A suspected drug dealer was arrested after a tip from a citizen at a Lady Lake service station.
A Lake County sheriff’s deputy was at RaceTrac at 10 p.m. Nov. 16 when the citizen pointed out a vehicle whose driver was believed to be impaired, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The vehicle was pulled over at U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and Longview Avenue and during the traffic stop, the odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle.
The driver was identified as 30-year-old Charlie McKenzie and he admitted there was marijuana in the vehicle.
Found in the vehicle were a clear vacuum-sealed bag containing 131 grams of marijuana, a second bag with 31 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and an envelope “containing U.S. currency consistent with the sales of illegal narcotics,” the deputy wrote in the arrest report.
When asked why he was selling marijuana, McKenzie said it was to pay for repairs to his vehicle.
He was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,000 bond.
