A scary scene erupted Wednesday afternoon shortly before 3 p.m. when the Denny’s restaurant in The Villages filled with smoke.
The issue is believed to have been caused by an electrical hazard in one of the building’s air conditioning units. The problem caused smoke to pour inside the restaurant, located at 1577 Belle Cruz Drive, which led to a quick evacuation of customers before firefighters arrived.

Multiple engines from The Villages Public Safety Department, Sumter County Fire Rescue and Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the call for help, as well as an American Medical Response ambulance.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
