To the Editor:
Marsha Shearer’s submission regarding the voting processes in Florida includes many salient points but she left out the most important contribution to the embarrassing multi-day failure to count votes. Shearer mentions incompetence but she never mentioned criminality. In the case of Broward County there is an apparent mix of voter fraud and incompetence as an investigation is underway to determine the extent of each. The state law was definitely violated when that unit missed reporting deadlines and the chain of custody was violated. No new machines will prevent fraud.
Shearer’s suggestion that Florida adopt a mail in ballot as the exclusive option to vote is wrongheaded in my opinion. That option leaves out providing proof of the voters identification and trying to verify a signature is nearly impossible. My signature varies everyday.
Florida only had two problem precincts and they are dominated by Democrats. Their problems were known and it has yet to be determined to what extent voter fraud will play! The principals must be held accountable.
