Joel Allen Dailey

A visitor from Idaho was arrested after a Christmas Day crash in the Village of Alhambra.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called at 2:41 p.m. to a report of a reckless driver in the vicinity of Privada Drive and Botello Avenue. The vehicle had jumped the curb and struck the entry gate at El Camino Real and Botello Avenue, according to an arrest report.

Witnesses followed the white Nissan with Idaho plates to a home at 2618 Moncayo Ave. There they found the vehicle improperly parked on the grassy area between homes. The driver was identified as 43-year-old Joel Allen Dailey of Orofino, Idaho. He had “a pale face and a dry frothy mouth, with white foam on the sides of his lips,” according to the arrest report.

Upon being asked to participate in field sobriety exercises, Dailey responded that he has two prosthetic hips. He had “extreme difficulty” following instructions. He was found to be in possession of pills identified as Diazepam. He later provided breath samples that registered .186 and .196 blood alcohol content.

A criminal history check revealed four drunk driving convictions in Wyoming and one in Washington.

He was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, hit and run and drug possession. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $8,000 bond.
