Head-on crash on State Road 44 kills 86-year-old Eustis man

A head-on collision on State Road 44 in Lake County left a Eustis man dead Friday afternoon.

The crash took place near Tomahawk Trail around 1:40 p.m. when a 2006 Dodge van driven by 36-year-old Joseph Miller, of Eustis, collided head-on with a 2012 Dodge SUV driven by 64-year-old Elizabeth Michaud, also of Eustis. Edgar Michaud, 86, a passenger in the SUV, was pronounced dead at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford after the crash, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.

Elizabeth Michaud was transported to Florida Hospital Deland with serious injuries. Miller wasn’t injured in the crash, the report says.

FHP troopers are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to please call them at (407) 737-2213. All three people involved were wearing seatbelts and alcohol wasn’t a factor, the FHP report says, adding that the crash remains under investigation.
