To the Editor:

Climate change is receiving lots of attention from the news media and politicians these days. One must admit that the climate is changing. However, we are treating climate change as a political football rather than a scientific problem.  Climate change must be viewed as a world problem and not as a United States problem. The United States did not alone create climate change as the politicians imply, but the world has created the climate problem.
The United States represents 7 percent of the world land mass and we have 5 percent of the world population. Our-United States-efforts to reduce emissions and use renewable energy far exceed those efforts by the rest of the world.  Countries like India, China, Brazil and Africa represent many billions of people who do little or nothing to control emissions. Our efforts must be scientific and include all industrial countries in order for real progress to be made. The world will only attain some success in climate control when China, India and third world countries attain the level of emission control that the United States has attained and continues to improve upon. If this does not happen our efforts would have have been fruitless.
