Villagers won’t put up with cuts in The Villages Entertainment Department

To the Editor:

Wondering what is happening to The Villages Entertainment Department, Special Events (Performing groups) division? The person in charge for the last 16 years was recently unceremoniously relieved of their duties. Now, no one can get an answer as to what is happening regarding the groups that donate their time to perform on the squares for special events, such as Cruise-In’s, holiday festivals, etc.
Upcoming scheduled performances have been cancelled. No new 2019 schedule has been given. These groups have invested a lot of time and money. Used to be, if one had a question, you could call the Entertainment Department, talk to a real person and get real answers. Now you get a recorded message and no response. I have emailed twice and called at least four times over the course of a month, with no results whatsoever. The Daily Sun and the monthly Villages Magazine have alluded to “changes coming.”
Hmmm…Let us not forget Village residents are over 110,000 strong and can make a difference. We got our parades re-instated and “the wall” removed. If you’re a fan of these groups’ performances call the Entertainment Department and let them know (352) 750-5411.
