Teenagers apprehended after taking golf cart for ‘joy ride’

James Christopher Gough

A trio of teenagers was arrested after stealing a golf cart from a man’s carport and taking it for a “joy ride.”

The man reported that his golf cart had been stolen from his carport in the early morning hours Friday at Lake Griffin Isles Mobile Home Park in Fruitland Park.

While the theft of the golf cart was being investigated, a Lake County sheriff’s deputy was called to a report of some teens walking around the community boat dock at Eagles Nest Mobile Home Park. Additional deputies arrived on the scene, and it was discovered the teens had taken a thermos and four cans of beer from boats parked at the dock.

Deputies found 19-year-old James Christopher Gough, of Fruitland Park, in a truck bed and two underage teens, one hiding under a vehicle and the other hiding in a shed.

One of the teens admitted he was familiar with Eagles Nest Mobile Home Park because his grandmother is a resident.

Gough was arrested on charges of burglary and petit theft. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $16,000 bond. The two juveniles were also taken into custody.
