Lady Lake police nab sex offender behind wheel of stolen vehicle at service station

John Scholler

Lady Lake police nabbed a sex offender behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle. He had been arrested at the same location last year.

An officer at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday noticed the blue Hyundai in the parking lot of the Sunoco station on U.S. Hwy. 27/441. He ran the license plate and discovered it had been reported stolen in Boyton Beach.

The driver was identified as 49-year-old John Michael Scholler of Weirsdale, who has had multiple suspensions of his driver’s license and has been classified as a habitual offender. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $12,000 bond on charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle and driving while license suspended.

Scholler had been arrested in September at the same Sunoco station when he was driving with open liquor in the car.

Scholler is a registered sex offender. He was convicted in 1996 of sexual battery in Broward County.
