William V. Reed

William V. Reed

William V. Reed, 82, of The Villages, Florida, died of pulmonary disease on Wednesday, January 9th, 2019, at home surrounded by his family. Bill, born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to Charlie and Helen Reed, on September 24th, 1936.

He graduated from Holy Family High School in New Bedford, MA, and served four years in the Air Force. He had a lifelong love of sports, both playing and coaching baseball and basketball. He was an avid and devoted golfer and a life-long fan of the Patriots, Red Sox, and Celtics. His first passion, though, was his family. He was married to Barbara Connor Reed on August 11,1962 and celebrated 56 years of marriage this past summer.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, his three daughters and nine grandchildren, Katie Reed-Oliveira of Raleigh, North Carolina and her children Meagan, Erin, and Ryan; Carol Reed-Chan and her husband Steve of San Diego, California and their children Maggie, Connor, and Sarah; and Liz Gualtieri-Reed and her husband Tom, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and their children Riley, Maeve, and Declan; two brothers, James K. Reed of NC, and John T.H. Reed and his partner Bob of CA; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Monday, January 14th, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Saint Mark’s Church in the chapel with a reception immediately following. The funeral service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi in Raleigh, North Carolina on February 16, 2019 at 1 p.m.
