The Amenity Authority Committee is considering spending $80,000 on aquatic lift chairs at eight pools.
The AAC will discuss the chairlifts during a special budget workshop set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the District Office at Lake Sumter Landing.
The Project Wide Advisory Committee’s discussion last week about the possible expense of $340,000 for the installation of 34 chairs has stirred a great deal of debate and inspired several letters to the editor to Villages-News.com.
The installation of each chair will cost $10,000. The chairs will require about $500 in annual maintenance.
The AAC is responsible for amenities north of County Road 466. PWAC is responsible for amenities south of County Road 466.
The pools without chairlifts were constructed before the Americans with Disabilities Act mandated their placement.
Pools without lifts north of County Road 466 are the Paradise Family Pool, Chula Vista Neighborhood Pool, Mulberry Grove Sports Pool, Chatham Family Pool, Springdale Neighborhood Pool, Savannah Sports Pool, Summerhill Neighborhood Pool and the El Santiago Family Pool.
District staff is recommending the AAC move ahead with the installation of the chairlifts.
