Charles Vesely, Jr.

Charles Vesely Jr.

Charles J. Vesely, Jr. of The Villages passed away Friday, January 25, 2019, after a short illness at the age of 81.

After graduating from Valley Stream Central (NY) High School, Charlie joined the military. He served in the Army and was a member of the Green Beret, Special Forces, Ranger and Airborne Units. He left active duty and served in the NY National Guard until age 65. While serving he received his BA and Masters Degree in Education and went on to enjoy a long career as teacher and then as Dean of Students at Flushing High School. In 2003, he and his wife, Kate, retired to Hawaii where they enjoyed the Hawaiian weather and culture. In 2016, they moved to The Villages, FL to be closer to family. It was in The Villages that Charlie really learned to play golf, a game he truly enjoyed. His genuine smile, quick wit and wonderful stories (Charlie-isms) will be remembered fondly by his military colleagues, friends and the many students whose lives he profoundly influenced.

Charlie leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Kathleen. Also survived by his children, Mary (Ken) Maszy, Charles III (Genevieve), and Christopher (Linda). He is further survived by his grandchildren and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas.
A Celebration of Charlie’s life will be held on Monday, February 4th from 11 AM – 12 noon at Beyer Funeral Home, Lady Lake. A short prayer service will immediately follow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in New York with burial at Calverton National Cemetery, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlie’s name to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
