Animal Planet star headlining upcoming expo geared at area animal lovers

Animal Planet’s own Derrick Campana, internationally known for his work designing orthotics and prosthetics for all kinds of animals, will be the special guest at this year’s Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County event titled “For the Love of Animals Expo.”

This family friendly event will take place on Saturday, March 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Wildwood Community Center, located at 6500 Powell Road.

Derrick Campana poses with one of the 15,000-plus animals he’s helped over the years.

Area residents are being encouraged to mark their calendars for this fun-filled day for pet owners and animal lovers alike.

Whether residents are interested in animal care and welfare, looking to adopt, gathering information about local businesses who support the animal community, or simply want to show off their dog in the popular Strut Your Mutt Charity Dog Walk, they won’t want to miss it.

The event, which is being sponsored by PAWS Animal Hospital and Lake Panasoffkee/Floral City Animal Clinics, will be the largest array of animal-related groups and businesses ever brought together in Sumter County.

This event is not limited to dogs and cats. And the day-long excitement will include prizes, a silent auction, food trucks, crafters, fun dog contests, pet adoption opportunities, entertainment by Scooter the DJ and the world-famous Disc-Connected K-9s Frisbee dogs.

The event also will feature:

  • Strut Your Mutt Dog Walk: Walk your own dog or you may apply in advance to walk one of our Humane Society/SPCA’s adoptable dogs;
  • Vendors of animal services, including veterinarians, trainers, groomers and pet sitters;
  • Swamp Brothers;
  • McGruff the Crime Dog;
  • Sumter County Sheriff’s Office K-9 demonstration;
  • Bounce houses for kids;
  • Interesting pets, including reptiles, tortoises and more; and
  • A wildlife exhibit.
