James Andrew Gapski Sr.

James Andrew Gapski Sr., formally of Clay NY, passed away at his home in the Highland Lakes Community of Leesburg, FL, on February 7, 2019. Jim was born on August 10, 1935 in Liverpool NY graduating Liverpool High School with the class of 1955. He attended the General Motors Body School in Clarence NY. He was employed for 34 years with the Liverpool Central School District and was a member of the NY Army National Guard for 7 years. Jim was an avid auto enthusiast, enjoyed gardening, camping and woodworking, creating a variety of items that were gifted to friends and family, along with helping others including coaching little league and serving as an assistant Boy Scout Leader with Troup 316 in Cicero NY.

Jim, a member of the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Leesburg, FL and a former member of St. Johns dioceses in Clay NY, is survived by his wife of 59 years Mary Louise Dixon Gapski; children James A. Gapski Jr. (Mary) of Fulton NY and Susan A. O’Neil (Thomas) of Ithaca NY. He is also survived by his brothers Ronald (Lori) of Brooksville FL and Gary (Cathy) of Liverpool NY along with 4 grandchildren,Joseph Gapski, Samantha (Gapski) Degroff, Connor and Sean O’Neil and great grandchildren. Jim was predeceased by his brother Robert.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 in the Chapel of Beyers Funeral Home, Leesburg from 10 to 11 a.m. with a Funeral Service to follow beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will take place in the Spring at Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
