Leesburg High School put on lockdown after report of armed person on or near campus

Leesburg High School was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after an anonymous tip was received about someone being armed on or near the campus.

Deputies from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Leesburg Police Department responded to the school, along with Lake County Schools security personnel.

After a thorough search of the facility, located at 1401 Yellow Jacket Way in Leesburg, no evidence of a weapon nor anyone fitting the description of the person possibly seen with a weapon was found, a Lake County Sheriff’s Office report states.

The lockdown was then lifted and school functions returned to a normal schedule. But additional law enforcement officers were scheduled to remain on campus throughout the day, the sheriff’s office report says.
