A man was arrested near Lake Miona Recreation Center after he allegedly held a woman against her will.
A woman went Tuesday to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office at Pinellas Plaza in The Villages and described a pattern of abuse, which included being locked in a room, not being allowed to eat and being cut off from family and friends. She said she had suffered physical abuse and that her boyfriend, 20-year-old Alex Michael Barrett, of Wildwood, also burned holes in her jeans. He told the woman he would “ruin her life” and “slit her throat” if she contacted law enforcement, according to the arrest report.
Barrett was found at about 9 p.m. Tuesday driving a Chevy Silverado on Buena Vista Boulevard at Bailey Trail. He was arrested on charges of kidnapping, battery and criminal mischief. The deputy making the arrest also found that Barrett was already on probation following an earlier arrest on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was booked without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
