A 71-year-old Villager has been sentenced after his arrest last year at the postal station in the Village of Santo Domingo.
Ted Coviello, 71, of 2014 Inez Lane, was arrested Nov. 29 when his gray Hyundai Accent was spotted stopped four feet in front of a stop bar at the intersection of Cazares Avenue and Enrique Drive, according to an accident report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy noted the scent of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the car and noticed the driver had speech that “was slow and slurred as he was trying to tell me the car was a rental.”
The deputy found that Coviello had urinated on himself. It was later determined that Coviello was driving on a New York license, but did not have it with him. Coviello struggled through field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .254 and .247 blood alcohol content. A 200ml bottle of Skol vodka was found in the vehicle’s center console. It was about one-tenth full. A 1.75 liter bottle of Skol vodka was found on the floorboard of the vehicle. It was about three-quarters full.
Earlier this month in Sumter County Court, he pleaded no contest in the case. He will lose his driver’s license for six months and has been placed on probation for one year. He also has been ordered to perform 80 hours of community service.
