A woman whose teenage “problem child” sparked an outcry last year from a group of Villagers has landed back behind bars.
Lynn Marcella Woods, 49, was arrested at 6:52 a.m. Tuesday at her mother’s home at 3561 Idlewood Loop in the Village of Summerhill. She was wanted on a warrant charging her with violating her probation stemming from a 2017 arrest after a night of drinking at City Fire at Lake Sumter Landing.
Community Development District 3 supervisors heard pleas in January 2018 regarding Woods’ teenage son, who the Village of Summerhill neighbors labeled a “problem child.” They claimed the teenager was roaming the streets, peeping in windows and had exposed himself to at least one woman. The Villagers said they were fearing the boy will reach 19 and would then become a permanent resident. Nineteen-year-olds are beyond the enforcement range of “children” in The Villages.
Woods recently brought home a new dog, named Zelle, which appears to be Pit Bull mix. The dog is about six months old and Woods recently posted a photo on social media displaying a scratch inflicted by the dog. A post from a friend suggested Woods “pour half a beer” on the wound and drink the other half. Woods has frequently posted about the dog’s high energy level.
Woods is being held without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center with no idea of her potential release date. That leaves her mother to care for her grandson and the dog.
When Woods was originally arrested Dec. 21, 2017, she was found sleeping in a blue Volkswagen at Lake Sumter Landing. The car’s driver’s side door was open and there was a pile of vomit outside of it. She admitted she had been drinking tequila at City Fire, according to the arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The keys were in the car’s ignition and turned on to enable the operation of the air conditioning and radio.
Last year in Sumter County Court, Woods pleaded no contest in the case. She lost her driver’s license for six months, was placed on probation for a year and ordered to perform 50 hours of community service.
The Idlewood Loop home remains in Woods’ mother’s name, but the tax bill is being mailed to a home in Springfield, Mass., also owned by the mother.
Recent posts on Woods’ Facebook page detailed celebrations for St. Patrick’s Day, her March 4 birthday and the Super Bowl. The Rhode Island native was cheering for the Patriots.
