Darwin Baker

Darwin Lee Baker passed away March 23, 2019 at his home in The Villages, Florida.  He was born June 11, 1935 in Spearfish, South Dakota to Charles and Alberta Baker.  Shortly after birth he and his mother returned to Fonda, Iowa.  Darwin grew up and went to school in Fonda. After college Darwin lived in Winston Salem, North Carolina where he met and married Jane Purnell.  In 1963 the family moved to Huntsville, Alabama, where he worked and lived for over 50 years.   Jane passed in 2002 of cancer.  While volunteering with Habitat Darwin and Sunny met, and were married in 2008.  In 2016 they moved to The Villages, Florida.

Darwin was a volunteer for The American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Huntsville Hospital, EAA and Habitat for Humanity.   He is a Life Member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

Darwin is survived by his wife Sunny Baker, son Jeffrey Baker, stepson Ray Knott, 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Jane, parents, brother Richard, and daughter Faron Campbell.

Laughlin Funeral Home, Huntsville, Alabama in charge of arrangements.  Burial in Maple Hill Cemetery, Huntsville, Alabama.
