To the Editor:
Amid all the questions about the Villages hospital in recent days, I have yet to see anyone request a look at the hospital’s audited financial statements.
It would be interesting to see a five-year comparative income statement detailing the income and expenses of The Villages Regional Hospital and a five-year comparative balance sheet showing the assets and liabilities of TVRH over that period.
As a Certified Public Accountant I place considerable value on comparative data and trends to show whether an entity is moving forward or backward in it’s mission …. and perhaps whether “profit” may be trumping patient care or other considerations in the corporate philosophy. Even the footnote disclosures (some of which are mandatory) in the audited financial statements may disclose information that is not readily apparent in the numbers. The news media should step forward and request this information. (Obviously, it will not be The Villages Daily Sun).
