To the Editor:
Most rental units are empty six to eight months a year. Should they pay ZERO when they aren’t occupied ? While facilities are operating at max capacity during “silly season” by snowbirds (whether they be second home owners or snowbird rentals), they are near empty during the summer months.
That’s why costs are averaged out, to tax a rental property at a higher rate because amenities are used more is unfair.
If full-time residents don’t take full advantage of the facilities in The Villages and complain about a few dollar increase, they should move someplace that doesn’t have the amenities they aren’t using.
The administrative burden of proving what is a rental, second home etc would be a nightmare. And I’m sure a class action would be brought to determine fairness regarding occupied vs. empty units.
What’s next, charging a fee per use at swimming pools and recreation centers ? And we have CDD supervisors advocating for this?
