A teenage driver was ticketed after a crash Saturday at the entrance to a shopping plaza in The Villages.
Alexandria Nicolle Rosa Gonzalez, 18, of Leesburg, had been at the wheel of a red 2010 Dodge Journey at 11:58 a.m. Saturday making a turn into Rolling Acres Plaza.
She had been traveling on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 when two drivers traveling in the opposite direction waved her through so she could make the turn, according to an accident report from the Lady Lake Police Department. When she reached the third lane, she accelerated without checking to make sure it was clear.
Her vehicle traveled directly into the path of a 2011 GMC Acadia driven by 17-year-old Amy Hernandez, of Lady Lake. The impact knocked the Dodge Journey onto its side.
Two witnesses gave statements to police.
Rosa Gonzalez was treated at the scene by Lake EMS. She was ticketed on a charge of failure to yield.
Hernandez was not injured.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
