Oxford Goodwill’s book room named in honor of young motorcycle crash victim

The book room at Goodwill’s Oxford store has been named for Adam Hanson, a young man who died in a 2006 motorcycle crash.

Stanley Hanson and his wife, Martha, donated $25,000 to Goodwill’s BookWorks children’s literacy program in honor of their late son, Adam, who died on a motorcycle crash in 2006.

Hanson was honored after his parents, Stanley and Martha Hanson, donated $25,000 to Goodwill’s BookWorks children’s literacy program.

The Adam Hanson Book Room was dedicated on April 9. A plaque will be installed in the front of the store at 11954 County Road 105, across from Wal-Mart.
The grant came from the Adam Hanson Communities Fund, which makes grants especially to organizations that serve children.

“We do not have any grandchildren, so this fund provides Martha and me the opportunity to adopt and help grandchildren of others from our community,” said Stanley Hanson.

The BookWorks program promotes literacy by giving books to children from low-income families. Goodwill volunteers read to children at Head Start centers and other locations before presenting each child with a personalized book to take home. Last year, books were distributed to more than 41,000 children.

Goodwill’s donated goods stores supports human services in 10 Central Florida counties, providing employment training and job placement for people with disabilities, as well as community corrections programs. Besides its children’s literacy program, the organization also offers affordable apartment communities for seniors and people with disabilities.
