Suspected thief tracked down year after heist at ULTA Beauty

Ethel Mae McCaskill

A suspected thief has been tracked down a year after a heist at ULTA Beauty in Lady Lake.

Ethel Mae McCaskill, 51, of Ocala was arrested Thursday on a felony charge of retail theft. She and two other women entered the store on April 12, 2018 and were caught on security cameras taking cologne and perfume and concealing it in their garments, according to an arrest warrant. The women left in a gray 2001 Dodge. The license plate number was captured. The registered owner of the vehicle was contacted and she said she had loaned the car to McCaskill.

An image of McCaskill was obtained from the security footage and compared to the photo from her driver’s license. They were determined to be a match.

McCaskill is currently serving a two-year sentence at the Lowell Correctional Institution after she was convicted in February in Brevard County on charges of retail theft over $300 and use of an anti-shoplifting device.

She was transported Wednesday from Lowell to the Lake County Jail to face the new charge.
