An escaped prison inmate is back behind bars after a complaint about suspicious activity in The Villages.
Kyle Dilmore, 26, had escaped April 17 from a halfway house in Ocala, according to the Florida Department of Corrections. He had been finishing a two-year sentence following his 2018 convictions on a burglary charge and two counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle.
Lady Lake police at about 6:30 p.m. April 21 received a report of suspicious activity at 1130 Avenida De Las Casas near Spanish Springs.
A police officer spotted Dilmore walking in the vicinity of Del Mar Drive and Avenida Central and took him into custody.
Dilmore in February 2018 stole a tractor from a farm in Chipley in Washington County. The tractor broke down and Dilmore walked back to where he had stolen it. He woke up the owner, pulled a hammer on him, threatened him and tried to take his wallet. Dilmore then jumped into the owner’s truck and fled, according to an account published in the Chipley Observer.
